C Restaurant - try their tasting menu only if you have time

C Restaurant

2-1600 Howe Street, Vancouver

C Restaurant on Urbanspoon

Food: 3.5
Service: 3.5
Price: Expensive

A while back, Groupon was running a pretty good deal for a 10 course tasting menu at C restaurant. Typically it's $120 per person, but with the deal it was that price for 2 people. Since I've heard some good things about their seafood, I really wanted to check it out.

The restaurant
- gorgeous location right by the ocean with a nice view of False Creek area
- great ambience with lots of natural lighting
- perfect place to bring a client or a date
 Cucumber soup wtih sable fish
- no salt
- sour because of the lemonade form on top
- I can see and taste the fish, but it did not contribute much to the overall flavour

Tuna Tartare
- delicious and fresh tuna
- light citrus dressing
 Side Stripe Prawn
- slightly over cooked prawn
- only one bacon lime tortillini,
 Ling Cod
- our favorite
- perfectly cooked fish and clam, very tender and juicy
- love the kombu soup, very rich seafood flavours
 Crisp Halibut
- buttery fish with golden crispy coating
- interesting presentation with de-constructed tartar sauce
 Seared Salmon
- good portion
- salmon was moist
- quail egg was perfectly cooked
 Valdion Blue Cheese
- not a fan of blue cheese
- super oily crustini
- both pear and honey was just that, not very special
 Sweet Corn Sorbet
- Very interesting creamy corn flavour
- A little too sweet for me
 Chocolate Mousse
- not too sweet
- airy mousse
 Petit Four
- a selection of dessert
- I was way too full to enjoy these.
- all I remember is the chocolate cake was rich

The meal itself was not bad, they definitely do shine in their seafood department as expected. Service was good, as expected as well. The biggest problem I had with this meal was the timing. I am not sure if it's typical, but we were there for about 3.5 hours for the whole 10 course. By about 2.5 hour mark, both R and I were getting tired and restless at the same time. As you can see from the picture (taken with no flash from beginning to end), we arrived when it's nice and sunny out, and left when the moon is well above our heads.
