Memphis - as good as I remembered it

It's funny how people perceive areas outside of Vancouver. I once had someone said to me "You live in Coquitlam, so there are cows everywhere then?". My first reaction was LOL, seriously, everywhere is as developed as Vancouver, but just not as crowded. Anyways, the point is I venture further out to try a new location of Memphis Blues located in Surrey, but borderline Langley (where some people believe no civilization exist :D).

This brings back memory, because my very first blog post was actually about the Memphis Blues at Commercial Drive. Now two years has gone by, and I am finally back to try them again. I love this new location, it's bright, spacious and very clean, they even had a nice patio too. The menu and prices really hasn't changed too much since the last time I was there.

As always, I started off with my favorite Boylan creme soda. M tried the birch beer, while T had the root beer. The birch beer was very similar to the root beer, except for a more herbal aftertaste.

We really only intended to order the Memphis feast (just like last time), but R ordered the Elvis platter ($69.95) by mistake. This was a huge platter that was filled to the max with BBQ meat and the fixings. By the looks of it, I already knew it was gonna be too much for the 4 of us, and it certainly was. Here is my thought on everything:

Pull pork: everyone's favorite, it was so juicy and flavorful
Beef brisket: mostly juicy, with some area a bit dry. The one thing I noticed is that the pieces were not as big as before.
Ribs and riblets: great flavor, and tender
Chicken: actually much better in comparison with last time, it was moist and tender. Although the flavor was still rather mild, but that's what the delicious BBQ sauce is for.
Sausage: meaty and good, slightly oily.

The sides consisted of corn bread, fries, cole slaw, potato salad, chili and the best BBQ sauce. As always my favorite was the sauce, it was tangy with with a hint of sweetness (must be the peach). Most sides were good, but I found the corn bread to be a bit too crumbly and the fries could be crispier.

Although all the meat was best eaten with the BBQ sauce, but they also provided us with tons of other sauces to choose from. Of course eating BBQ, you must use your hand, hence they also provided a roll of paper towels.

Memphis Blues has proven it's consistent with their delicious BBQ meat and awesome sauce. Although it was "order at the counter" type restaurant, the service at this location was much better. The waitress came to check on us often and ask about our experiences. There are definitely some perks in driving out of busy Vancouver to eat, such as better service, bigger/brighter restaurant and most of all no wait time.
