R and I don't usually visit the Kits area all that often, but this time we had a blogger dinner at East is East, so we thought we head out there earlier to explore a bit. By the time we arrived, it was lunch time, so we decided to eat first. Since there are numerous restaurants on 4th, it was a tough decision on what to eat. I would have loved to eat at Noodle Box again, but I thought maybe it's time to try something new.

Upon walking up and down around 4th and Burrad, we noticed Joe's Grill, and I remembered a co-worker use to tell me how good it was, so we decided to check it out. We walked in to find a packed diner (definitely a good sign), thus we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table.
Their menu had all the usual breakfast items, but it was the Apple Candied Walnut French Toast from Today's Special that caught my attention. Although they gave me syrup on the side, but the french toast were already drenched in the syrup when it arrived. Therefore the french toast was a bit too soggy. The candied walnuts were whole piece and tasted great. It was sweet and crunchy. The cooked apple slices were tart but also sweet since it was drench as well. The unfortunate thing is that the crispy bacons and sausages were also drenched, thus both had a strong syrup sweetness. Overall the dish was good, I only wish they didn't pour syrup prior to serving it.
R got the Marinara Cream Cheese Benny. The English muffin was toasted with a layer of cream cheese instead of ham. Instead of the usual hollandaise sauce, this one is topped with marinara sauce. Therefore the benny tasted more like pizza than anything else. Actually I think the hash brown was the highlight. It was very good, the potato were well seasoned and crispy on the outside. I don't think this dish come with anything else, which I find a bit plain.

Joe Grill didn't serve anything fancy, but they certainly do serve a basic hearty breakfast. We were quite full after the meal, in fact I was still quite full by dinner time. Therefore if I'm ever looking for a good basic breakfast, I will definitely consider going to Joe's Grill again.
